Levels

Most of the Broadway Swing classes in Lindy Hop are taught in three levels. Please assess yourself and your current abilities honestly to ensure smooth running classes where everyone feels challenged but not overwhelmed. In case you are unsure which level will suit you best, feel free to drop us an email.

Each level will have one class with each of our three teacher couples. On Sunday afternoon, you can choose your own adventure from three open level classes. You can find the topics here. As a special treat, Nik will offer a DJing workshop where you can learn about swing DJing, musical context and get inspired. You can sign up for your class of choice at Saturday’s party.

On Friday, there will be another highlight: Lisa and Fabien will teach an open level class on Rhythm and Blues before the welcome party. You can register for this class with all other ticket options beginning on 1 July 2024, 5:17 p.m.

Downtown

This is where the Broadway starts. Running through the old port area, the Broadway leads you through the earliest buildings of New York City. This also fits your dancing. You have been dancing Lindy Hop for at least six months in classes and at socials. In Magdeburg, you should have participated in Lindy 1 and 2. This is one of your first festival participations. Your aim is strengthening the basics of dancing and you want to dive into some more complex moves and footwork variations to continue on your Lindy Hop journey up the Broadway.

Midtown

Passing through the busiest part of Manhattan, the Broadway beckons with skyscrapers, a wide range of shopping opportunities and, of course, the famous theater district. In order to enjoy the Lindy Hop activities along this part of the way, you have been dancing for at least one or two years in classes and at socials and you have already visited some other festivals. You confidently dance swing outs even on faster tempos and you can include simple footwork and rhythm variations in your dancing. Your focus now lies on learning new moves and on learning more variations to participate more confidently in the bustle that is the Lindy Hop.

– Our Intermediate Track

Uptown

Leading through quieter residential areas, the Broadway connects the famous Juilliard School and Columbia University before leaving Manhattan through the musical diversity of Harlem, the center of Lindy Hop. This progression suits you, as you have danced Lindy Hop regularly for some years now, usually trained in advanced classes at home and visited other (international) festivals on at least an intermediate/advanced level before. You have a firm grasp on all the basics including the swing out in different variations, and you are not afraid of different tempos and partners. You do not focus on learning new moves but rather on going back to the basics and developing your technique and personal style in order to improve your musicality and ensure that you are dancing to the music. This is the highest level of the weekend and many experienced dancers will participate here. So please consider carefully if this level reflects your current level of dancing.
